Betty Elaine (Musgrave) Ganzhorn was born August 4, 1924, to Melvern and Hulda (Robertson) Musgrave in Woodbine, Iowa. She was raised in Woodbine and graduated from Woodbine High School in 1942. Betty worked at First National Bank in Woodbine. Betty married Robert Ganzhorn on September 19, 1945, at the United Methodist Church in Woodbine. She then worked at Foodland for a number of years. The couple farmed Bob's family farm all of their married life. Bob died on March 29, 2008.
Betty was a member of the United Methodist Church where she helped with the ladies groups and a member of the Neighborhood Club. In high school Betty was involved in the drama and music programs and was a very good saxophone player. Betty was a wonderful cook. She loved spending time with her family and in her garden. She was known for growing large tomatoes and having enough produce to feed her entire family. Betty was always a very gracious hostess with coffee and refreshments ready at all times.
Betty died on May 22, 2012, at Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine, Iowa at the age of 87 years, nine months, and 18 days.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert Ganzhorn; two sisters, Bonnie Roundy and Roberta Getty; and brother, John Musgrave. She is survived by her two children, John (Ellen) Ganzhorn of Woodbine, Iowa, Deb (Bruce) Bloom of Elkhorn, Nebraska; four grandchildren, Vicki Ganzhorn, Julie Harman, Dawn Melcher, and Jeff Bloom; two step grandchildren, Crystal (Jon) Shaffer and Bud Flaitz; eight great grandchildren, Chandler, Katiya, Rylan & Azaria Melcher, Matthew & Colin Bloom, Trace & Van Harman; five step great grandchildren, Ezra, Seth, Syler, Jackson and Graysen Shaffer; three sisters-in-law, Nola Musgrave of Monument, Colorado, Iona Haight-Gabel and Mae Ganzhorn both of Woodbine, Iowa; and many other relatives and friends.
