Joseph Robert Smith was born January 11, 1985, to Rod and Teresa (Rock) Smith in Omaha, Nebraska. Joe was raised near Woodbine, attended Woodbine school and graduated in 2003. While in high school, Joe participated in Cross Country and was part of the team that went to state. He also ran in track, played basketball, was active in 4-H, served on Student Council, and was Class President. Additionally he was the best student assistant coach Rod ever had. Joe attended the University of Nebraska in Kearney for 2 1/2 years and then finished his degree in education from the Council Bluffs campus of Buena Vista University. Joe married Tina Clevenger on June 11, 2011, at the First Christian Church in Woodbine. Joe worked for E-4 Sons for three years, Walnut High School, Agriland F.S. and Heartland CO-OP in Mondamin.

Joe was a member of the First Christian Church where he served as a deacon. He loved being a dad, but he had a hard time disciplining his kids. He enjoyed writing, reading and watching Netflix. He particularly enjoyed debating with his sister.

Joe died on Tuesday, November 29, 2016, at the Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley, Iowa at the age of 31 years 10 months, and 18 days.

Joe was preceded in death by his grandfather, Vernon Smith. He is survived by his wife, Tina Smith of Woodbine; two+ children, Cody and Sadie Jo Smith; parents, Rod and Teresa Smith of Woodbine; sister, Mary Smith of Los Angeles, CA; brother, James Smith of San Diego, CA; parents-in-law, Tom Clevenger of Omaha, NE and Crystal Clevenger of Beebeetown, IA; grandparents, Roberta Smith and Jim and Norma Rock all of Woodbine; great grandma, Ilene Davidson of Woodbine; and many other relatives and friends.
