Carol LaVonne (McCord) Thompson was born December 25, 1933, to George and Vera (Hack) McCord in Galland's Grove near Dunlap, Iowa. She was raised on farms near Dunlap, attended country school until the 7th grade, and graduated from Dunlap High School. Carol married John (Jack) Thompson on September 9, 1953, at the Methodist Church in Dunlap. The couple made their home in Dunlap and also California for a few years before returning to Dunlap. Carol graduated from Dana College in 1972 with a degree in Education. She taught P.E. at Tri-Center School before she went on to receive her Master's Degree in Special Education. Carol taught in the Woodbine School for 22 years until her retirement. Carol loved learning and was proud to pass that on to her students. Carol lived in Dunlap until retiring from teaching. The couple then moved to Henderson, Nevada.

Carol was a member of the Dunlap United Methodist Church and numerous clubs. She enjoyed reading and traveling. Her biggest interest was genealogy and she did extensive research into family lines. She loved to share stories about her ancestors and passing these on to her grandchildren. Carol put family foremost throughout her life. She had a big heart and gladly helped those in need.

Carol died on February 21, 2017, at the St. Rose Dominican Hospital Sienna in Henderson, Nevada at the age of 83 years, one month and 27 days.

Carol was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Clair and Harold McCord; four sisters, Helen Thoreson, Ruby Mathison, Ina Peterson and Vesta Morris; son-in-law, Chuck Keith; and other relatives. She is survived by her husband, Jack Thompson of Henderson, NV; four children, Jackie Keith of Las Vegas, NV, Jeff (Pam) Thompson of Johnstown, CO, Terry Thompson of Omaha, NE, Tony (Rita) Thompson of Murrieta, CA; eight grandchildren, Jason, Sarah, Codi, Ashley, Joshua, Zak, Alex, and Lizzy; six great grandchildren, Amaya, Avery, Ariana, Izabel, Loona and Carsen; three siblings, Ron (Dorothy) McCord of Dunlap, IA, Virginia Campbell of Rapid City, SD, Vera Arleta Morse of Omaha, NE; and many other relatives and friends.
