Tribute & Message From The Family

Darrell LaVerne Argotsinger was born December 16, 1923, to Glenn and Viola (McIntosh) Argotsinger in Dow City, Iowa. He was raised near Dow City and graduated from Dow City High School. After his graduation he farmed with his dad. Darrell met his future wife, Mary Young, at church and on August 27, 1944, the two were married at the Woodbine Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Darrell worked as a lineman until he was electrocuted in 1949. He then went to work for International Moline Tractor in Woodbine and Dow Ford in Logan. Darrell was elected the Harrison County Clerk and did this for many years. After leaving county government he worked for IDS Financial Planning in Omaha. He was elected county clerk again and worked there until his retirement. Of all of the positions that Darrell held, the one most dear to him was being the pastor at the Woodbine and Logan RLDS Churches. Darrell was a Patriarch Evangelist in the church. Mary died on April 10, 2016, after 72 years of marriage.

Darrell was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and most recently a member of the Remnant Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Missouri Valley. He enjoyed all sports ~ particularly baseball. His favorite team to watch was the Atlanta Braves. He also enjoyed going to the activities that his kids and grandkids were involved in. Darrell loved his church and his family.

Darrell died on Friday, November 18, 2016, at the Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine, Iowa at the age of 92 years, 11 months, and two days.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Argotsinger; brother, Kenneth Argotsinger and sister, Verdine Reed. He is survived by his four children, Lynn (Pam) Argotsinger of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Gary (Vicki) Argotsinger of Woodbine, Iowa, Randy (Sally) Argotsinger of Urbandale, Iowa, Lu Ann (Eric) Pendleton of Tampa, Florida; 13 grandchildren; 22+ great grand-children; and many other relatives and friends.

So so sorry for your loss and my delay. I know that heaven gained a wonderful being as he left such a big mark on my life; he confirmed me, taught me many strong principles, and how to pray with unwavering faith especially during life's trials. I am so grateful for his devotion to his faith and family. Hugs and prayers to you all.

We were saddened to hear of Darrell's passing. Over the years, he and Mary were always good friends of my parents and me. After My mother's passing, I tried always stopped by to visit them whenever I was in Woodbine, and Mary would often send cookies with me when I left. I was already looking forward to seeing them again the next time I came to Iowa, but that is not to be. I will think of both Mary and Darrell often though, especially when I drive past their house, and I will miss them. My kindest and most sincere thoughts go out to their children, grandchildren and other family members.

You are all in my thoughts and prayers. It is so difficult to lose your parents. I have such deeet memories of visiting with all of you during our summer visits while growing up, however my favorite memory was during a visit your parents made to Oregon to visit mom and dad. They came to Idaho and spent the night at my home. I wanted Aunt Mary and Uncle Darrel to sleep in my room so they would their own private restroom,..so about a half hour after they retired for the night, we hear these loud giggles and Uncle Darrel says "Mary, will you hold still and quit laughing?" What I didn't tell you was that our bed was a waterbed, and Uncle Darrel told her she was making him seasick!

Thoughts and condolences on the passing of a great man. Darrell performed our marriage ceremony some 38 years ago. He was very much a part of my formative years as I grew in relationship with the Divine. A good family friend and spiritual man.

One of my favorite memories happened one year at reunion when Darrell was out playing volleyball with a bunch of us teenagers. I think I was a little in awe of his skill.

Prayers for your family at this time of mixed sadness at his loss and joy at his going "home:.

Argotsinger family--
I think all of my memories of church growing up include an Argotsinger... Darrell and Mary were pivotal people in those memories and the shaping of my faith.
My favorite "non-church" memory of Darrell was in 1975 when the cost of a can of pop went up to 25cents. I was working at Bud's Sinclair, and Darrell swore "he'd never pay a quarter for a can of pop!". Well, we all know how that ended up.
I am so very sorry for the loss of your father. Through everything, he has been a pillar of strength for so many. He is reunited with so many friends, and family, and his ultimate goal of being with God.
You are all in my prayers, and thoughts at this time...
Love and prayers--
